As I have been doing research for my site one thing I have noticed is that a memory foam pillow is highly being sought after. And honestly why not! Memory foam pillows are a phenomenal product that has been created. As time moves on, creators of these wonderful pillows keep finding how to improve their pillows.

Memory Foam Pillows

Right now there are several companies that make some form of a memory foam pillow. Now some companies make the most standard memory foam pillows, while other take it above and beyond and create pillows with aromatherapy smells included into them.

However, can you say honestly what makes a good memory foam pillow? More specifically do you know which one would be the best for you? How about do you know that you can find a memory foam pillow with a little something extra that may just help you out and you didn’t even know you needed it?

How about I go ahead and provide you with some great information to help you in answering all the questions. While I am at it, I will also tell you a couple of really good companies I have found along the way that provide memory foam pillows. So if you are searching for a memory foam pillow, this post can guide you to understanding better which one would be good for you!

What Is A Memory Foam Pillow?

For those of you who have never experienced memory foam, this is a type of foam that will hold your shape very well. It conforms to your body and helps hold that shape for longer period of time than other material would.

Since memory foam is so good at it, cradling and conforming to you, this foam is highly used by people who suffer from pressure point problems. It is kinda of like it just sinks to fit your body to help alleviate all the pressure.

Okay so now you have a good idea of what memory foam is, can you imagine this in a pillow? Simply lay your head down and this will take instant shape to cradle your head while you are sleeping. But with the memory foam it will still be firm enough that you will not just sink all the way down.

Personally, I think memory foam pillows are a very good idea, but you need to make sure you are buying one that would work best for you. So I thought I would go ahead and fill in you on the different forms of memory foam you can find and some other things you need to take a look at it, before you purchase one of these memory foam pillows.

Helpful Information To Make A Better Decision!

When you are beginning to look for a memory foam pillow you will run across a couple of terms that tell you what type of foam you are looking at it. However, it mainly boils down to 2 styles. One is a whole piece and the other is shredded/cut. Now although the words themselves how they are formed I did want to explain how each one can affect you and how each one holds up.

  • So for starters let take a glance at it, the pillows that have a solid piece of memory foam. This solid piece of foam is considered to be the traditional memory foam. As it is one solid piece it will remain the stability and help to align your body better. Simply because it is one solid piece. Now the downfall to this is because it is one solid piece you will not be able to take it and scrunch the way you want it to be. So yes this style is probably better for making sure your body is aligned properly, but you will not be able to change its form to make it thicker or flatter.
  • The other style I wanted to tell you about is called shredded/cut. Basically it is what it says. They use shredded/cut up memory foam to fill the pillow with. Now with this you can mold it more to what you would like better and that would be more comfortable for you. However, where the solid will keep its form, the shredded/cut is more loose and can easily be moved around. Another plus side to having the shredded/cut style is if your pillow is not thick enough or firm enough you can simply add more filling to it, and vice versa if it is too firm or thick take some out.

Which one is better for you? That solely depends on you. Both will have the same wonderful cradling effect and take the shape and mold of your head. But the solid type will offer a better neck and head alignment while the shredded/cut style will allow you to mold it to your liking.

Now that I have introduced you to the basics, I still have more to share with you. There are options that will help out with things like body heat, aromatherapy, and even different types of liners. So stick around you might like what you find out!

The Bonuses You Can Look For!

One big downside to getting a memory foam pillow is that the material the memory foam is made out of is a big body heat trapper. Which if you happen to be a hot natured sleeper this could cause you to wake up overheated and sweating a lot.

But there is hope for you hot natured sleepers, because now they also make memory foam with different types of gel. Now these gels give the cell structure a different shape, which in turn allows the memory foam to become more breathable. Resulting in more air flow and less trapped body heat. So if you happen to get really hot while sleeping this may be the way for you to go.

Now how about if your are person who deals with a lot of stress in your life. If you happen to be one of the millions of us that have this problem, they do have memory foam pillows out there with varieties of aromas infused into them. Causing you to slow down and get to a more relaxed state so that you will be able to fall asleep faster and sleep better.

Some aromas you can find infused into a memory foam pillow are, Aloe Vera, green tea extract, lavender, and even chamomile. Can you imagine a pillow that can give you the ultimate cradling effect while also have one of these wonderful scents softly relaxing you. I think you would have a pretty good pillow to say the least.

Memory Foam Pillows

There is a lot more options to look at it, when trying to decide on a memory foam pillow and I will say way to many for me to explain them all to you. But I do want to point out two more things that could be very helpful.

Bamboo! As you are reading along I am sure that you will find some pillows that make mention of using a Bamboo liner or cover. This is a great thing. Simply what the Bamboo does is allow an even more air flow effect. So basically it is another way to help keep the trapping body heat down to a minimal. Don’t over look this one if you see it because it could really make a difference in your sleep.

For the last little thing I want to tell you about is, you need to make sure when you are looking through all the different options, look for hypoallergenic, dust mite free, as well as toxin free. Almost all pillows will offer these features today.

However just make sure you check for them just in case. Anything to help with our health especially while we are sleeping is something great to have. And these are just a few of the small steps we can take to ensure that we are living healthier and better lives.

What Are Some Of The Companies And How Do They Compare?

When it comes to buying a memory foam pillow there are a lot of companies out there that carry them. Most of them seem to have some really good products. So what I thought I would do is give you some of these wonderful companies names and what their overall general ratings are according to the public. 2. Hello Melissa,

I found your post on memory foam pillows very interesting, I have been having so much difficulty with the pillows I purchase. I often wake up with aches and pains from a joint disorder, I always have neck and shoulder stiffness and pain in the mornings and I was curious if memory foam pillows would benefit me or cause me even more pain?

    1. Hi Jeff. Glad to see you. I am glad you liked my post and hopefully learned something as well. I am sorry you are having to deal with these aches and pain. I know from personal experience these are no fun at all. However, to answer your question yes I think you could benefit greatly from a memory foam pillow. However, a couple of things you want to check before you decide on one is what is your normal sleeping position?(on your side, back or stomach) The reason I say this is because for each one of these positions a different firmness will work better and be more beneficial. The other thing I would mention is you may want to make sure it comes with a breathable cover such as 100% cotton or bamboo. Memory pillows are great but do tend to trap heat causing night sweats. These covers will help with the air flow allowing you to sleep cooler. Hope this helps. If not please let me know I will help any way I can.
Thank you again and have a wonderful day.
